Albert R. Swords, Jr. âbeloved husband, father & grandfatherâ
ULYSSES, PA---Albert R. âAlâ Swords, Jr., 85, of Ulysses, passed away with his family at his side on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born September 14, 1929 in York County, PA, he was a son of Albert R. Sr. and Mildred Fake Swords. On December 11, 1978 in Maryland, he married Dorothy L. Mines, who survives.
He attended Ore Valley School in York County.
Albert was employed at the former Plitz Company in York. He later was employed as a truck driver, fork lift operator and machine operator at Cole Steel in York until the plant closed in 1990. He also was a security guard for a period of time and later drove a school bus for the Northern Potter School District.
He has been a resident of Ulysses since 1987. He enjoyed hunting and in his early years, deep sea fishing. Al most especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife are four children, Albert R. (Peg) Swords of Red Lion, Steven E. (Sue) Swords of Breinigsville, Missy (Lynn) Good of Manchester, and Cathy Eckenrode of York; three step-children, Rose Ann (Kurvin) Hershey of Ulysses, Donald (Kim) Kuria of Windsor Township, and Michael (Bonnie) Kuria of Palmyra; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Miller of York; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two step-children, Linda Enfield and Kenneth Gum.
Private graveside services will be held in the Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport, with the Rev. Thomas Shatto, pastor of St. Paulâs Lutheran Church, Galeton, officiating.
