WILLIAMSPORT, PA---Allen J. Barber, 69, of Williamsport, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA and Portville, NY, passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Thursday, September 10, 2015, after a long illness.
     Born on February 25, 1946 in Olean, NY, he was a son of John and Genevieve Cowan Barber.  On June 24, 1978 in Portville, NY, he married Sharon E. Rixford, who survives.
     Allen was a graduate of Portville Central High School.  He attended Gulf Coast Bible College in Houston, Texas.  In 1964    Allen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served until 1978, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was very proud of his service to his country.
     He was employed by the former Hysol Corporation in Olean and later was employed by Temple Inland Forest Products in Mount Jewett as an industrial sander technician for 15 years until retiring at age 55 due to ill health..
     Allen was a very proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps League in Williamsport.  He loved his pets, gardening, and most especially spending time with his family.
     Surviving besides his wife are seven children, Tina L. Barber of Howard, Nora A. (Nick) Aladieff and Ella M. Owens, both of Puyallup, Washington, Timothy L. (Kari) Barber of Ulysses, Kansas, Peggy L. (Steven) Pattison of Bradford, Tina Rae Barber of Castile, NY, and Jeffrey A. Barber of Williamsport; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond (Mary) Barber of California, David L. (Deb) Barber of North Carolina, Murray J. (Linda) Barber of Arizona, and Malcomb (Bonnie) Barber of  Ohio; a brother-in-law, Michael E. (Bobbie) Rixford of Eldred; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents, Allen was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kristian.
     In keeping with Allen’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
     Allen’s family has entrusted his care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
