Alvina M. Shepard âdevoted military wife and motherâ
CONNEAUTVILLE, PA---Alvina M. Shepard, 88, of Conneautville, a former longtime resident of Austin, passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, February 8, 2016, after a long illness.
Born October 9, 1927 in Clermont, she was a daughter of Howard D. and Madelin E. Campbell Clinton. On January 8, 1946 in Frederick, Md., she married Neil L. Shepard, who passed away on July 30, 2012.
Alvina held various jobs throughout the years. She was a cook for the Cameron County Jail in Emporium and also at the Potter County Jail in Coudersport. She was also employed as a cashier at Perryâs Country Store in Austin and was a mentor/chaperone for the Potter County School bus for Special Needs children.
Alvina attended the Living Hope Community Church in Conneautville. She was a member of the Austin Ambulance Association and worked their bingo for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed âshoppingâ and visiting with her sister, Margaret, every night on the phone. Her beloved dog, Tinkerbell, was her pride and joy. Alvina was a very giving person. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are four sons, Neil T. (Debi) Shepard of Port Allegany, Charles D. (Taunya) Shepard of Harmonsburg, Douglas E. Shepard of Conneautville, and Larry W. Shepard of Emporium; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Andrews of Dunnellon, Florida; a son-in-law, George P. Yatsko of Uniontown; and a niece, Deborah Jones of River View, Florida.
In addition to her parents and husband of 66 years, Mrs. Shepard was predeceased by a daughter, Linda L. Yatsko, who died in 2001.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Austin Free Methodist Church, Austin, where a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Roger D. Laktash, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
Alvinaâs family has entrusted her care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
