Alyce G. Reese âco-founder of Christmas Houseâ
COUDERSPORT, PA---Alyce G. Reese, 89, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.
Born January 12, 1925 in Sweden Hill, she was a daughter of Joseph E. and Alberta Britt Gleason. On September 12, 1943 in Coudersport, she married Eugene S. âGeneâ Reese, who passed away on April 19, 1998.
Alyce was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1943. She worked as a healthcare worker in the Philadelphia area prior to returning to Potter County. She was a successful Tupperware sales lady for several years. For several years prior to her retirement, Alyce was employed by Potter County Human Services.
Alyce, along with her husband, co-founded the Christmas House in Coudersport in 1992. Christmas House is an outreach program that aids people in times of crisis and especially at Christmas. She received many commendations from various organizations and as recently as 2012 received the âCitizen of the Yearâ award from the American Legion Post 192 in Coudersport.
Alyce was a member of Trapping Brook Road Seventh Day Adventist Church in Wellsville, NY. She enjoyed cooking and fishing. Her greatest loves were her family, especially hearing stories about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her beloved Christmas House.
Surviving are a son, Timothy G. (Michele) Reese of Reading; three daughters, Jeannine R. (Vincent) Cosentino of Woodbridge, VA, Holly R. (Egil Grikis) Morrison of London, England, and Heather R. (John Lobdell) Reese-Lobdell of Bangor, PA; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fay Long Booth of Colesburg and Dee Ruter of Coudersport; two brothers, William (Shirley) Gleason of Coudersport and Edwin (Lucy) Gleason of Monticello, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alyce was predeceased by an infant brother, James Gleason.
There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held in Coudersport on a date to be announced. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.
