Arthur L. Pinney
LITTLE GENESEE---Arthur L. Pinney, 87, a longtime resident of Little Genesee, passed away with his loving family by his side at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, on Friday, October 30, 2015, after a short illness.
Born March 24, 1928 in Franklinville, he was a son of Luthene and Marie Hitchcock Pinney. On June 11, 1949 in Little Genesee, he married Joyce A. Hawkes, who survives.
He was a graduate of Hinsdale High School, class of 1945 and was a graduate of Lincoln Electric Welding School where he qualified in structural and pipeline welding. Mr. Pinney was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II in Germany, attaining the rank of Technician 4th grade.
Mr. Pinney was employed by the former Producers Gas Company in Little Genesee which became National Fuel Gas Company where his career spanned 44 years retiring as a foreman.
Mr. Pinney served as Town Justice for Little Genesee from 1963 to 1974 and was also Town Supervisor for Little Genesee for several years. He was a member of the Allegany County Office of the Aging Advisory Board where he served as vice chairman for several years. He served as Chairman of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member and Past Junior Master of Macedonia Lodge #258 F. & A.M., in Bolivar and a member and Past Worthy Patron and past Associate Patron of Buttrick Chapter #109 Order of the Eastern Star in Bolivar. He was also a member of Kenyon Andrus Post, American Legion in Bolivar, a member of the New York State Supervisors Association, and a past member of the New York State Magistrates Association.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling, and sports.
Surviving besides his wife are five children, William A. (Janice) Pinney of Galeton, PA, Jody A. Allen of Bolivar, Mark D. (Betty) Pinney of Almond, Russell A. (Lynn) Pinney of Bolivar, and Dale A. âPonchâ Pinney of Richburg; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Benedict of Hannibal; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Pinney of Little Genesee and Anna Pinney of Cuba; a brother-in-law, Paul (Elaine) Hawkes of Penn Yan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pinney was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra âSandyâ Knowlton; and two brothers, George Pinney and Kenneth âBudâ Pinney.
In keeping with the familyâs wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA, with Pastor Kevin Palmatier of the Little Genesee Seventh Day Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery, Little Genesee.
