SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Barbara J. “Barb†Sherwood, 67, of Shinglehouse, passed away at home with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 after a short illness.
Born April 23, 1948 in Buffalo, NY, she was a daughter of Stanley and Sarah Underhill Colburn. On January 14, 1984 in Shinglehouse, she married Robert D. “Bob†Sherwood, who survives.
Barb attended Depew (NY) Central School. She was employed at the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean and later had been employed as a housekeeper at the Olean General Hospital in Olean, retiring in April of 2010.
She loved flower gardening and animals, but her greatest love was her family.
Surviving besides her husband are three children, Bruce D. (Wendy) Whitman of Millport, Shelly A. (Patrick) Prince of Shinglehouse, and Amy L. Chappell of Shinglehouse; nine grandchildren, Levi, Sarah, Christopher, Kennedy, Paige, Lindsey, Kaci, Sawyer and Chase; a great-granddaughter, Zoey; a brother, William Colburn of West Seneca, NY; two sisters, Peggy Corbett of Depew, NY and Roberta Colburn of Cheektowaga, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Barb was predeceased by a son, Paul Whitman, who died in 2008; and six brothers and sisters.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2015 in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Trula L. Hollywood, pastor of Athens Trinity Episcopal Church, Athens, PA, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a SPCA of the donor’s choice.
Barb’s family has entrusted her care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
