Barbara A. Watterson “loving wife, mother and grandmother”
FONDA, N.Y.---Barbara A. “Barb” Watterson, 77, of Fonda, formerly of Millport, Pa., passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020, in Wells Nursing Home, Johnstown, after an extended illness.
Born on Saturday, April 25, 1942 in Marion Center, Pa., she was a daughter of Lucille Sheesley and lovingly raised by her foster parents, Clair and Mary Minser of Marion Center. On August 11, 1962 in Indiana County, Pa., she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Robert L. “Bob” Watterson, who passed away on May 8, 2014.
Barb was a graduate of Marion Center High School. she was a homemaker and the secretary for her husband’s real estate office, Fairman Real Estate Agency in Millport. For many years she worked on the Clara Township election board.
Barb was a member of the Millport United Methodist Church. She had many friends in the Shinglehouse area and loved getting together with “the girls” to play cards. In her younger years, she enjoyed hunting with her husband and her children, Robin and Brent. She also enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband and their friends. For many years, she was the chairman of the canned goods section at the Potter County Fair in Millport. She won many blue ribbons for her flower arrangements and house plants at the fair. Along with her husband, Barb loved gardening and for many years they had a very large vegetable garden. Barb was always a happy, kindhearted soul. She moved to Fonda when Bob became ill, spending the last nine years living there to be close to her granddaughter, Taylre, who was the light and joy of her life.
Surviving are a daughter, Robin L. (Jim) Estep of Troy, Pa.; a son, Brent R. (Tracy) Watterson of Johnstown; three grandchildren, Taylre Watterson, Michelle (Scott) Harkness, and Ryan (Samantha) Estep; and two great-granddaughters, Peyton and Emma Harkness.
In addition to her mother and foster parents, Barb was predeceased by a foster brother, Bill Minser; and two foster sisters, Nova Ahl and Ethel Stennman.
Private funeral services are being held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse. A celebration of Barb’s life will be held at a time and date to be announced.
Barb entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa.
