C. Edward âEdâ McCleaft âGREAT DAD! Amazing Friend!â
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---C. Edward âEdâ McCleaft, 66, of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his sonâs home after a long, hard battle with an ongoing illness.
Born on February 15, 1948 in Chester, PA, he was the son of Clifford E. and Anna Zitnick McCleaft. On October 12, 1971 in Elkton, MD, Ed married Nancy L. Gourley, who survives.
Mr. McCleaft attended Chichester High School in Boothwyn, PA. Ed worked at the Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. as a pipe fitter in Chester, PA for several years.
In 1975, along with his wife, Ed moved to Shinglehouse, PA, where they owned and operated On the Side Sub Shop in Olean, NY, and the Philly Deli in Shinglehouse. In 1981, Ed opened Edâs Service and later opened Orange Crate Auto Sales with his sons, who continue to operate the family businesses.
In his spare time, Ed drag raced and loved his hot rods. Ed will be especially remembered for his knowledge and passion for motors and anything that went fast. Mr. McCleaft also loved spending time at the race track, as well as visiting with customers at his shop. He most especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 42 years, are his father of Coudersport; three sons, Edward R. âEddieâ (Kari) McCleaft, Brian T. (Crystal) McCleaft, and Jay M. (Megan Schieler) McCleaft, all of Shinglehouse; three grandsons, Sage, Evan, and Jordan; a sister, Ruth A. (Tony) Guillo of Denver, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Carol J. Drain Grasser.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 12 noon at the Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, 392 Coon Crossing Rd, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Thomas Isaacson, pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made in Edâs memory to DRAW (Drag Racing of Women), c/o Rosalee Noble, 4 Hance Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. DRAW is a non-profit organization that provides financial and emotional support to qualified individuals involved in drag racing accidents at the track.
