Carl H. Roberts âformer longtime Potter County Commissionerâ
COUDERSPORT, PA---Carl Harold Roberts, 88, of Coudersport, passed away in his home on Thursday, May 23, 2013 after a short illness.
Born May 7, 1925 in Ulysses, he was a son of Carlton and Mildred Lore Roberts. He was formerly married to Lucille Sebolt Roberts. In 1984 in Coudersport, he married Linda McCrea Hurt, who survives.
Carl graduated from Coudersport High School, Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946 during World War II as a map maker. He graduated from Lafayette College in Easton in 1950 with a BA in Geology.
He was self employed as an oil and gas geologist from 1953 until the time of his retirement. He was the president of TransEastern Petroleum, Coudersport, PA from 1963 to 2005. He also owned the former Pen and Pad Emporium office supply store in Coudersport for four years.
A proud member of the Republican Party, Carl served five terms as a Potter County Commissioner. He was the past chairman of the Potter County Solid Waste Authority.
Carl was a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport. He was a member and past president of the Coudersport Golf Club and a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Thomas M. (Jan) Roberts of Tallahassee, Florida and Jeffrey C. Roberts of Palm Harbor, Florida; four grandchildren, Gregory (Toni) Roberts, Jennifer (Jim) Masson, Jeremi (Brittany) Roberts and Erin (Chelsea) Roberts; five great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Drew A. (Stacy) Hurt of Bridgeville and Joel R. (Stephanie) Hurt of Gibsonia; four step-grandchildren, Griffin Hurt, Emmett Hurt, Ian Hurt and Sadie Hurt; a niece; and two great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by a sister, Doris Lush.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Park United Methodist Church, Coudersport, with the Rev. Scott R. Ogden, pastor, officiating.
