Catharina M. A. Engelsman “beloved mother and grandmother”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Catharina M. A. “Kitty” Engelsman, 88, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, in the Bradford Manor, Bradford, after a long illness.
Born on Saturday, December 23, 1933 in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, she was a daughter of Herman and Catharina Brokling Houtzager. On September 22, 1954 in Rotterdam she married Coert Engelsman, who passed away on October 26, 2010.
Kitty graduated from school in Holland with a degree in home economics.
Kitty and her husband immigrated to the United States living in Highlands, New Jersey, moving to Coudersport in 1981.
Kitty was employed as a counselor for Dickinson Mental Health in Coudersport for over 19 years.
She was a member and past matron of Eulalia Chapter #148 O.E.S. in Coudersport and was a very active member and past president of the Women’s Club in Coudersport. She loved to cook and sew, having made her clothes and also had made suits and tuxedos for her husband and sons.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Bob (Maria “Loy”) Engelsman of Shinglehouse and Norman (Cheryl) Engelsman of Corpus Christi, Texas; a granddaughter, Sarah Leah Good; a sister, Riet Houtzager of Holland; a brother, Herman (Ploughe) Houtzager of Holland; and three nephews.
In keeping with Kitty’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eulalia Chapter #148 OES, c/o Amy Moshier, Secretary, 12 Vader Hill Road, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Kitty’s family has entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
