Clayton C. Reed “avid outdoorsman”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Clayton C. Reed, 80, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born on Tuesday, December 15, 1942 in Coudersport, he was a son of Clayton E. and Wanda A. Petrosewitz Reed. On April 22, 1961 in Austin, he married Freda Y. Gleason, who passed away on November 25, 2016.
Clayton was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1960. He was employed on the family farm and also drove a lime truck for the former Coudersport Agway. He was also a self-employed logger for many years, retiring in 2007. Clayton also served as a Summit Township supervisor for 35 years.
Clayton was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport and was a member of the Coudersport Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are six children, Kimberly A. (Edward) Goodenough of Coudersport, Rob C. (Barbara) Reed of York, PA, James A. (Lisa Sabin Stanicar) Reed of Coudersport, Clayton J. (Joanna) Reed of Quakertown, PA, Elizabeth R. (William) Hargenrater of Denver, PA, and Teresa M. (Dwight) Feister of Paradise, PA; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary McCaigue of Coudersport; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clayton was predeceased by a sister Betty Sallade; a grandson, Justin Brown; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Bainey.
Family and friends may call from 9am to 11am on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the gathering space of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am with the Rev. Christopher Wheeler, as celebrant. Burial will be in Reed Cemetery, Coudersport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Clayton’s name may be made to St. Eulalia Catholic Church, 6 Maple Street, Coudersport, PA 16915, attention Catholic Daughters of America or the Knights of Columbus.
Clayton entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
