Clyde K. Youngs, Sr. âbeloved husband, father and grandfatherâ
CERES, NY---Clyde K. Youngs, Sr., 82, a longtime resident of Ceres, passed away at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Portville, on Friday, May 8, 2015, after a long illness.
Born July 18, 1932 in Clayton, NY, he was a son of Wilbur and Laura Scott Youngs. On April 4, 1956 in South Carolina, he married Louise Anne Phelps, who survives.
He was a graduate of Clayton High School. Mr. Youngs honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1971 and continued to serve another ten years in the Naval Reserves, retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
Mr. Youngs was employed at Sears in the repair department in Olean, by Blue Bird Coach Lines in Olean, later by Willyâs Repair in Olean, and he retired from Olean Wholesale after 15 years of service. Throughout his working years Mr. Youngs was the proud owner and operator of Ceres A.C. where he helped countless people with their air conditioning needs until retiring in 2014 due to ill health. Mr. Youngs was a former Town of Genesee councilman and also served as a supervisor for the Town of Genesee.
He was a member of the Clayton American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, softball, golf, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Clyde and his sons were known for the fun times they had at the family barn where many area residents---kids to adults---gathered to play âbarn ballâ and other activities. Mr. Youngs was a longtime Scoutmaster of Troop 65 in Ceres.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Clyde K. (Laurie) Youngs, Jr. of Ceres, NY, Willie (Michele) Youngs of Portville, Charles R. âBobbyâ (Debbie) Youngs of Portville, and David W. (KiKi) Youngs of Allegany; eleven grandchildren, Brandon, Heather, Kyle, Cody, Nicholas, Allyson, Jordanne, Michael, and Sarah Youngs and Amber and Jonathan Glover; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne (Margie) Youngs of Clayton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Youngs was predeceased by four brothers, Wendall, LeVerne, Chuck, Kilroy; and a sister, Ethelwynn.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015 with the Rev. David Herne, pastor of Heritage AFlame Ministries, Bolivar, officiating. Burial will be in Bowler Memorial Cemetery, Little Genesee.
Full military honors will be accorded on Thursday.
