Cressence A. Nolan “beloved sister and aunt”

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Cressence A. “Cress” Nolan, 95, a lifelong resident of Shinglehouse, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, in Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, Cuba, N.Y.

Born on Wednesday, May 25, 1927 in Olean, N.Y., she was a daughter of Albert A. and Ida L. Austin Nolan.

Cress was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1944 and was a graduate of E.J. Meyer Nursing School in Buffalo, N.Y. Cress’ entire nursing career was spent as a Registered Nurse employed at the Olean General Hospital in Olean, N.Y. She retired as a nursing supervisor.

Cress was a member of Bell Run Union Church in Shinglehouse where played the organ for Sunday services for many years. She enjoyed camping for many years and at one time took her mother and her nieces and nephews across country in her motor home. She also loved sports.

Surviving are a brother, Harold (Nancy) Nolan of Shinglehouse; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

In addition to her parents, Cress was predeceased by two brothers, Horace Nolan and Albert Nolan, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Wurtz and Betty Ayers Nolan; and a nephew, Rod Nolan.

Family and friends may call from 11am to 1pm on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor Chad E. Shaffer of the Bell Run Union Church, officiating. Burial will be in Bell Run Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
