David Amidon “loving husband, father and grandfather”
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---David “Dave” Amidon, 81, a lifelong resident of Shinglehouse, passed away with his loving family by his side on Friday, December 8, 2023, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a short illness.
Born on Tuesday, June 2, 1942 in Wellsville, NY, he was a son of Lewis H. and Luella E. “Midge” Studer Amidon. On August 4, 1962 in Shinglehouse, he married Rachelann “Cookie” Bryant, who survives.
Dave was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. He was employed as a traveling supervisor for the former Market Basket grocery chain. He then was employed for over 34 years as a scheduler for the former Dresser Rand in Olean, NY. He later worked for Wending Creek Farms in Coudersport for almost 18 years.
Dave was a member of the former Ceres United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader and was a lay pastor for the Ceres, Shinglehouse, Millport, Crystal, and Oswayo United Methodist Churches for many years. He was a member of the Millport Community Church. He was a dedicated member of the Oswayo Valley Rod and Gun Club where he volunteered for many years for their Kid’s Fishing Derby. He was a member of the NRA. He loved to fish and hunt. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cookie; a daughter, Dee Dee (Todd) Walker of Friendship, NY; a son, Chris (Connie) Amidon of Coudersport; six grandchildren, Joshua (Christina) Walker, Kasey Shultz, Blake (Juliet) Walker, Hunter (Amber) Amidon, Nathan (Felicia) Amidon, and Briggs (Morgan) Amidon; twelve great-grandchildren, Andrea, Angelina, Alex, Mickayla, Connor, Brynley, Amelia, Raelynn, Kaylee, River, Silas, and Mason; a brother, Donald (Cindy) Amidon of Shinglehouse; three nieces; a nephew; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Dave was predeceased by his parents.
Family and friends may call from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Shinglehouse Methodist Church, North Lincoln Street, Shinglehouse where a Celebration of Life will follow at 12 noon with Pastor Tanner Rodarmel, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dave’s name may be made to the Oswayo Valley Rod and Gun Club, PO Box 186, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
Dave’s family entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
