David M. Matzinger “loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---David Marshall Matzinger, 79, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a lengthy illness.
Born on Sunday, January 25, 1942 in Coudersport, he was the son of Marshall P. and Bessie E. Denson Matzinger. On July 29, 1961 in Coudersport, he married Mary Y. Masolotte, who survives.
David was a graduate of Coudersport Area High School, Class of 1959. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Lock Haven State Teachers College in 1963 and earned his Masters Degree from Mansfield University in 1970. He taught two years in the Port Allegany Union School District and for 32 years in the Coudersport Area School District, retiring in 1997. He also taught and directed the Coudersport Adult Basic Education Program for 30 years. He coached football at Coudersport High School for 20 years and owned and operated a painting and roofing business for many years.
David was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport, the Knights of Columbus Council 1355, and the now defunct Coudersport Jaycees. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his cat Emma.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years; two sons, David S. (Sheri) Matzinger of Coudersport and Michael J. Matzinger of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Devin (Kelsey), Jenna (Leighton), Derek, Annelyse (Michael), and Olivia (Andrew); five great-grandchildren, Jaidyn, Landon, Avery, Brynlee, and Colton; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by three sisters, Wanda Hemphill, Annette McCann, Phyllis Matzinger; and a brother, Kenneth Matzinger
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Friday, December 10, 2021, at St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport. The Rev. James Campbell, pastor, will be celebrant.

David entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
