David L. Wetzel âbeloved father, grandfather, and friendâ
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---David L. âDaveâ Wetzel, 71, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016, in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a short illness.
Born on June 27, 1944 in Olean, NY, he was a son of Christy and Melda Varney Wetzel. On May 31, 1994 in Wilmington, N.C., he married Anne Hallock, who passed away on November 14, 2013.
He was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse and a graduate of the former Olean Business Institute in Olean, NY. Dave served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, having been stationed in Germany.
For numerous years, Dave was employed in the insurance industry. He later was employed as an over the road truck driver. He retired from Gas Field Specialists in Millport.
He was currently attending Bethel Lutheran Church in Portville. Dave was a member and past commander of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530 and a member of the Potter County Honor Guard. He had formerly served on the Oswayo Valley School Board in Shinglehouse. Dave, along with his wife Anne, raised Border Collies.
Surviving are a daughter, Nicole L. (Eric) Dame of Montoursville; two stepdaughters, Tracy L. Smith and Sally A. Gleason; a stepson, Kenneth W. (Deanna) Hallock, Jr.; five grandchildren, Zachary J. Good, Dustin R. Good, Taylor L. Graham-Hallock, Kennedy S. Hallock, and Kenneth J. âBusterâ Hallock; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Good and Mason Good; four brothers, Glenn Wetzel, Edwin Wetzel, Robert Wetzel, and Donald McFadden; two sisters, Mary Ellen Olson and Emily Jordan; several nieces and nephews; and longtime friends, Ron Good, Helen Payne, and Wayne Hathaway.
Dave was predeceased by his parents and his wife.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, with the Rev. Marie A. Meeks, pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church, Portville, the Rev. James Kazimer, pastor of the First Church of God, Eldred, and the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Wednesday at the funeral home.
