Dennis J. Furman “beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, and brother”
AUSTIN, PA---Dennis Jay Furman, 63, of Austin, passed away unexpectedly at work in Summit Township on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Born on Thursday, October 26, 1961 in Coudersport, he was a son of Edwin A. Furman and Doris A. Bunnell Furman Robison. On September 3, 2000, he married Cheryl M. Ayers, who survives.
Dennis was a graduate of Coudersport High School and graduated as salutatorian from Golf Academy of South Carolina in Myrtle Beach. Dennis was a veteran of the US Navy, having served from 1980 to 1986.
At the time of his death, Dennis was a Summit Township Supervisor. Dennis had previously been employed by UPMC Cole in Coudersport.
An avid golfer, Dennis was a member of the Coudersport Golf Club where he had won the Club Championship several times over the years. In 2024 he won the Senior Club Championship. He was a great cook and a master of all trades. He loved to hunt and fish. His greatest love was spending time with his beloved wife, family and many beloved dogs. He was an avid billiards player.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Cheryl; his mother, Doris of Coudersport; three children, Cody M. (Noida Cabrera) Parrish of Howe, Indiana, Joshua A. (Michelle L. ) Parrish of Shinglehouse, and Xavier A. (Kathryn) Furman of Sturgis, Michigan; twelve grandchildren, Tyler Parrish, Morgan Parrish, Loren Parrish, Cayden Parrish, Kimberly Parrish, Jaron Parrish, Andrew Parrish, Kael Parrish, Kole Parrish, Paisyne Long, Chandler Long, and Xaidyn Furman; three great-grandchildren, Kyrenia Parrish, Kayliana Parrish, and Axel Parrish; a daughter-in-law, Danielle Blimline of Asheville, NC; a brother, Michael A. (Judy) Furman of Harrisburg; a sister, Wendy S. (Roben) Reynolds of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Dennis was predeceased by a son, Christian M. Parrish; and a great-grandson, Carver M. Parrish.
In keeping with Dennis’ wishes, there will be no public visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a place and date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dennis’ name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Dennis’ family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
