Donald A. Dickerson âBeloved husband and fatherâ
PORTVILLE, NY----Donald A. Dickerson, 80, of Portville, formerly of Olean, NY and Ulysses, PA, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA after a long illness.
Born May 2, 1932 in Uniontown, PA, he was a son of Theodore and Georgia Holyfield Dickerson. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Lyle Tarbox. On February 22, 1958 in Olean, he married Ruth G. Reading, who survives.
Mr. Dickerson attended Ulysses High School, Ulysses, PA and was a U.S. Navy veteran having served on the U.S.S. Tabberer from May 18, 1951 until being honorably discharged on May 3, 1955. He was employed as a welder at the former Clark Brothers in Olean from 1956 to 1994.
He was a member of Portville American Legion Post #814 and Olean VFW Post 1619. He loved to hunt.
Surviving besides his wife are three children, Scott A. Dickerson of Allegany, NY, Donna R. (William Sterling) Dickerson of Portville, and Frederick C. Dickerson of Wellsville; a grandson, Brian Siebert of Shinglehouse; two sisters, Judy Henry of Wellsville and Janice Graves of Southern Pines, NC; a brother, Theodore Dickerson of Ulysses, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Dickerson was predeceased by his parents and stepfather.
There will be no public visitation or funeral services.
