Doris V. Major “beautiful inside and out”
ROULETTE, Pa.---Doris V. Major, 98, of Roulette, moved to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 9, 2022, with her loving family by her side, at UPMC Cole, Coudersport.
Born on Friday, June 6, 1924 in Machias, NY, she was the eldest child of Lyle and Hollice Burlingame Housler.
Doris was a member of the Fishing Creek United Methodist Church, a life member of the Roulette Ladies Fire Auxiliary, and a member of It’s All About Us Mainly Me Red Hat Society. Doris loved to read and could always be found with a newspaper or book in her hands. In her youth Doris played the violin, her instructor was the Blue Band director from Penn State. Most especially she loved the Lord and her family. She was a helluva woman, beautiful inside and out.
Left to cherish her memory are five gorgeous daughters, Nancy (James) Ferraro of Falls Creek, PA, Mary (James) Jordan of Tappannock, VA, Rebecca (William ) Gould of suburbs of Roulette, Paulette (Dave) Mesler of Upper Sartwell Creek Road; and Ellen (Steve) Taylor of Standardsville, VA; three dashing sons, Lyle (Bev) Smith of Emporium, PA, Mark (Janice) Major of Pleasant Valley Township; and Mike (Carla) Major of Port Allegany; a spectacularly perfect son, Jeffery Major of Roulette, who kept his mom young for many years; three special stepchildren, Judy (Skip) Snyder of Coudersport, James (Sandy) Major of Truman, PA, and Peggy (Simon) Peace of Reynoldsville, PA; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Kelly of Emporium; a swarm of grandchildren; a flock of great-grandchildren; a gaggle of great-great-grandchildren; a covey of great-great-great-grandchildren; and a clutch of great-great-great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her two husbands, Paul Smith and LaVerne Major, Doris was predeceased by a son, Baby Paul; two granddaughters, Amanda and Dalsey; three grandsons, Larry, Paul, and John; a great-granddaughter, Ellie; a stepdaughter, Vicki; two brothers, Robert Housler and George Housler; two sisters, Hazel Housler Uber and Jane Housler Dynda VanWhy; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Smith; and a son-in-law, Francis Mesler.
Family and friends may call from 10am to noon on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Fishing Creek United Methodist Church, Roulette where funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Matthew Howe and Pastor Kevin Sturdevant, co-officiating. Burial will be in Portage Cemetery, Sizerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roulette Fire and Ambulance Association, PO Box 172, Roulette, PA 16746.
Doris’ family entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
