Edward W. “Ed” Jenigen, Sr.
COUDERSPORT, PA---Edward W. “Ed” Jenigen, Sr., 86, a longtime resident of Coudersport, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, November 5, 2016, in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a brief illness.
Born on September 12, 1930 in Union, NJ, he was a son of Walter and Helen Doyle Jenigen. On October 13, 1979 in the Sweden Valley United Methodist Church, he married Evelyn Gross, who survives.
Ed attended school in Philadelphia. He was the owner of Eddie’s Auto Body in Philadelphia. In the spring of 1967, Ed and his family moved to Coudersport. He was employed by the former Robbins Chevrolet in Coudersport. He then opened his own business, Ed Jenigen’s Auto Body Shop in Coudersport, which he owned and operated until his retirement.
Ed was a member of Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church and a member of the Coudersport Golf Club. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping with his family and spending the winters at his home in Florida with his family and friends.
Surviving besides his wife are three children, Cindy L. (Steven) Jenigen Ginther of Alliance, Ohio, Edward W. Jenigen, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joanne R. Gleason of Coudersport; four grandchildren, Rochelle L. Smith, Heather A. Jenigen, Edward R. M. Jenigen, and Travis J. R. Gleason; a great-grandson, Cayman L. Smith; a brother, Raymond (Helga) Jenigen of Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews; and Frank Menarde of Philadelphia, his lifelong friend.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Charles and Al.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon. The Rev. Steven D. Small, pastor of the Southern Potter United Methodist Charge and the Rev. Tom Shatto, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the First Presbyterian Church, both of Galeton, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family suggests memorials in his name be made to the Sweden Valley Faith United Methodist Church, 1450 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Ed’s family has entrusted his care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
