Edward Alton Maxson “devoted husband, father and grandfather”
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Edward Alton Maxson, 80, of Shinglehouse, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, after a lengthy illness.
Born October 26, 1936 in Westfield, he was a son of Alton Keith and Agnes Thompson Maxson. On October 6, 1956 in the Bell Run Union Church, he married Dorothy J. Austin, who survives.
He was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1955. Mr. Maxson was employed as a pipe welder at Dresser Rand in Wellsville, retiring in 1998.
He was a member and past deacon of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed bird watching.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Beverly D. Maxson and a son, Gregory Alton (Pamela) Maxson, both of Shinglehouse; two grandsons, Kyle W. (Shauna) Maxson of Shinglehouse and Blake Edward-Alton Maxson of Wellsboro; three sisters, Eileen (James) Paddison of Shinglehouse, Marilyn (Richard) Bennett of Shinglehouse, and Carolyn (Robert) Houben of Wellsville; a brother, Dale (Roxanne) Maxson of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Neil W. Paddison.
Mr. Maxson was predeceased by his parents.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, 392 Coon Crossing Road, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Isaacson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Bell Run Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church Building Fund, 392 Coon Crossing Road, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mr. Maxson’s family has entrusted his care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
