Eileen L. Ahl âbeloved by allâ
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA----Eileen L. Ahl, 89, of Shinglehouse, passed away at home with her loving family by her side on Thursday, November 5, 2015, after a long illness.
Born on September 9, 1926 in Pleasant Mount, she was a daughter of John R. and Sadie C. OâNeil Leonard. On July 1, 1950 in Rock Lake, she married Robert S. âBobâ Ahl, who passed away on June 17, 1991.
She was a graduate of Pleasant Mount Vocational High School, Class of 1942 and was a graduate of Mansfield State Teachers College in 1946 with a Bachelorâs degree in education.
Mrs. Ahl retired from teaching at Oswayo Valley High School, Shinglehouse, in 1987. Her teaching career spanned 39 years, all being spent in Shinglehouse with the exception of four years where she taught in Port Allegany. She was a natural teacher who loved to teach all of her students.
Mrs. Ahl was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shinglehouse. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Teachers Association and the Potter-Tioga Teachers Association. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and reading. Her greatest love was her family.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick L. (Carol) Ahl, Ph.D, of Yardley and David J. Ahl of Shinglehouse; a daughter, Nancy A. (Robert) Owens of State College; two grandchildren, Hope J. Carter and Stephan R. Ahl; a brother, John R. Leonard of Charleston, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ahl was predeceased by two brothers, J. Paul Leonard and Leo B. Leonard; and two sisters, Margaret E. Greenwood and Mary Ann OâHara.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 in St. Theresa Catholic Church, Shinglehouse with the Rev. Thomas Brown, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
A prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Friday evening in the funeral home.
The family wants to thank the caregivers, friends, and community for their prayers, care, and love to Mrs. Ahl.
