Erika S. Contant                               “beloved daughter, sister, and aunt”

TUJUNGA, California----Erika S. Contant, 48, of Tujunga, California, formerly of Genesee, Pa. and Coudersport, Pa., passed away unexpectedly in her home on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

Born on Wednesday, May 7, 1975 in Allentown, Pa., she was a daughter of Gilles S. Contant and Linda J. Landis Contant.

Erika was a graduate of Northern Potter High School, Class of 1993, in Ulysses, Pa. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Erika was a US Army veteran having served honorably, attaining the rank of Sergeant. While serving her country, Erika was an animal care specialist, a job that she so enjoyed due to her love of animals.

After her military service, Erika was employed in the veterinary field in California. In 2023, Erika attained her Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy and at the time of her death was working as an assistant therapist in the Physical Therapy field.

Erika loved hiking and camping, and nature in general. As a child, she would go hiking and fishing with her father. She dearly loved her animals, especially her cats.

Left to cherish her memory are her father and stepmother, Gilles S. and Mary B. Wilson Contant of Coudersport; her mother, Linda J. Contant of Bechtelsville Pa.; three sisters, Claudine (Joe) Prosser of Marion, SC, Sue (Todd) Anderson of Buena, NJ, and Elizabeth (John) Wylie of Shinglehouse; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 10am to 12 noon on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, Pa., where funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Dan Brehm of God’s Country Ministries, Coudersport, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Coudersport.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Erika’s name may be made to Teacher’s Pet Rescue, 19 Blackberry Lane, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Erika’s family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa.
