Ethel P. Mix "Beloved mother and grandmother"
Ethel P. Mix, 93, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 in Charles Cole Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born July 7, 1918 in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter of Earl T. and Vivien Meacham Haynes. On June 16, 1937 in Millport, she married John D. Mix, who died on October 3, 1994.
Mrs. Mix was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1935. She was employed as a cafeteria worker in the Oswayo Valley Elementary School in Shinglehouse and retired from the Olean General Hospital in Olean where she was employed as a nurseâs aide.
Mrs. Mix was a member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha group of the church, the Gideonâs International Auxiliary, the former Sharon Grange 1247, and the Oswayo Valley Senior Center in Shinglehouse, where she played in its' former kitchen band.
Surviving are two sons, Donald D. Mix of Asheboro, NC and Theodore G. âTedâ (Bonnie) Mix of Olean; a daughter, Nancy J. Mix of Coudersport; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mix was predeceased by a son, David P. Mix, who died on March 4, 1969; a brother, the Rev. Neil Haynes; and a sister, Doris Gross.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Becky L. Edwards, pastor of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Dayton D. Mix, pastor of Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery.
