Evelyn G. Jenigen
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Evelyn G. Jenigen, 79, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away with her loving daughter by her side on Friday, November 12, 2021, in UPMC Cole, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Saturday, November 15, 1941, in Turtle Point, she was a daughter of Raymond and Margaret Freeman Gross. On October 13, 1979 in the Sweden Valley United Methodist Church, she married Edward W. “Ed” Jenigen, Sr., who passed away on November 5, 2016.
Evelyn was a graduate of Coudersport High School. She was employed for 42 years at the former Pure Carbon in Coudersport.
Evelyn was a member of Sweden Valley United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities including teaching Sunday school, playing the piano, cleaning the church, serving on many committees, working at spaghetti dinners, and buck dinners. She also took baked goods to the sick, visited patients at UPMC Long-Term Care and Sweden Valley Manor. She was also a member of the Coudersport Golf Club, the Office Girls in Coudersport, and was a longtime member of the Sweden Valley Grange. She was an avid golfer. Evelyn loved gardening and baking. She enjoyed camping with her family and spending the winters at her home in Florida with her family and friends. Her greatest love was her family.
Surviving are three children, Joanne R. (Stacy Ruter) Gleason of Coudersport, Cindy L. (Steven) Jenigen Ginther of Alliance, Ohio, and Edward W. Jenigen, Jr. of Wilmington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Rochelle L. Miller, Heather A. Jenigen, Edward R.M. Jenigen, and Travis J.R. Gleason; a great-grandson, Cayman L. Smith; four siblings, Charles (Jeanette) Gross of Coudersport, Duane (Pauline) Gross of Coudersport, Dwight (Darlene) Gross of Clearfield, and Carol (Jesse McLimans) Schroeder of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents and her husband.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, Evelyn’s memorial service will be livestreamed to the public at 11am on Friday, November 19, 2021 on the church’s Facebook page: Sweden Valley Umc. The Rev. Greg Rapp, pastor of Sweden Valley United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Tom Shatto, will officiate. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.
In lieu of flowers, Evelyn’s family suggests memorials in Evelyn’s name may be made to the Sweden Valley United Methodist Church, 1450 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Evelyn entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
