Francis B. Mooney “beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother”

CERES, Pa.---Francis B. “Fran” Mooney, 79, of Ceres, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, N.Y., after a short illness.
Born on Wednesday, September 17, 1941, in Olean, he was a son of George L. and Pauline F. Larkin Mooney. On September 26, 1958, in Portville, N.Y., he married Margery A. “Minnie” Marvin, who passed away on February 28, 2015.
He attended Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse, later earning his GED. Fran was a US Army veteran.
Fran was employed by the Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio, then by the former Clark Brothers in Olean, and later by General Motors in Buffalo, N.Y. He retired from the Olean Times Herald in Olean.
In his early years, Fran enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Taekwondo, where he earned numerous trophies.
Surviving are three sons, Mark A. (Laurie) Mooney of Beaver Dams, N.Y., Brett A. (Anita) Mooney of Macedonia, Ohio, and Tracy O. (Pam) Mooney of Parma Heights, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Mary Mooney of Hudson, Ohio; a grandson, Justin (Amber) Mooney; four granddaughters, Carrie (Tim) Osterhout, Wendy (Dave Jackson) Erickson, Cindy (Adam Snair) Mooney, and Tanya (Thadeus Pudlik) Mooney; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Haskins of Bedford, Ohio, Janet (Gerald) Shorter of Olean, and Jo Anne (Mo) Washington of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Fran was predeceased by a son, Jaime A. Mooney.
In keeping with Fran’s wishes, funeral services and burial were held privately in the Evergreen Cemetery, Ceres.
Fran entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
