Freda Palmatier “beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Freda Palmatier, 91, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, passed away in her home with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, after a long illness.
Born on Saturday, October 18, 1930, in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter of Fred and Hazel Wheeler Osborne. On September 3, 1949 in Corpus Christi, Texas, she married Philip F. Palmatier, who passed away on December 24, 2007.
Freda was a graduate of Coudersport High School. She was first employed as a bank teller in Coudersport for several years. She was then employed by Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport as a secretary/receptionist in the Outpatient department.
Freda attended the North Eulalia Baptist Church in Coudersport. She was a member of Eulalia Chapter #148 Order of the Eastern Star in Coudersport and a 51 year member of the Coudersport American Legion Post 192 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to read and solve crossword and word search puzzles. She had a green thumb, keeping a vegetable garden and tending to her plants and flowers in her home. Freda was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
Freda was a Gold Star Mother, having lost her son during his military service to his country.
Left to cherish her memory are seven children, Curt (Judy) Palmatier of Montrose, Connie (Bill) Plummer of Sabinsville, Carol Bliss of Marion, N.Y., Chris (Jami) Palmatier of Virginia Beach, VA, Cindy (Kevin) Sharp of Wayland, N.Y., Cathy (Brent) Cole of Coudersport, and Celia Kio of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter-in-law, Beryle Palmatier of Spring Mills; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Yentzer of Port Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.
Freda’s family extends a special thank you to Freda’s neighbor, Elaine Goodrich.
In addition to her parents and husband, Freda was predeceased by a son, Philip “Jet” Palmatier, Jr.; two grandsons, Jeremy Kio and Matthew Palmatier; a son-in-law, Robert Kio; six sisters; and a brother.
Family and friends may call from 9am to 11am on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in North Eulalia Baptist Church, 643 SR 49, Coudersport, where funeral services will follow at 11am with Pastor Mike Reeves, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Coudersport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the LEEK Hunting and Mountain Preserve, 497 PA-244, Oswayo, PA 16915.
Freda’s family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
