Gerald P. Meyers âbeloved husband, father and grandfatherâ
AUSTIN, PA---Gerald P. Meyers, 79, of Austin, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
Born on May 26, 1936 in Moon Township, he was a son of Peter and Mary Kotchey Meyers. On November 12, 1955 in the Keating Summit United Methodist Church, he married Virginia Marie Mantz, who survives.
Gerald was employed by Ball Incon (currently Ardagh, Inc.) in Port Allegany, retiring after 42 years of service.
He loved the outdoors, riding his four wheeler, snowmobiling, and hunting. He loved spending time with his family, especially his great-grandson.
Surviving beside his wife of 60 years, are a son, Gerald âJerryâ (Judy) Meyers of Austin; two daughters, Lori A. Smith and Pam S. (Frank Jr.) Switzer, both of Port Allegany; three grandsons, Aron (Jenn) Meyers of Austin, Brian (Jenna) Switzer of Erie, and Derek (Sara) Switzer of Chevy Chase, MD; two great-grandchildren, Garrett Meyers of Bradford and Claire Switzer of Erie; two step-grandchildren, Lacy (Donny) Ayers and Adam Walker, both of Austin; a step-great-grandson, Hayden Ayers of Austin; seven sisters, Mary Major and Doris McLaughlin, both of Port Allegany, Nancy Tanner of Bradford, Lorraine Stoops of Pittsburgh, Vera (Ron) Kelley of Arizona, and Norma (Dave) Houck and Rose Weimer, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Meyers was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Meyers.
Friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 67 Church Street, Port Allegany, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. J. T. Madison, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Portage Valley Cemetery, Wrights, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Austin Ambulance Association, PO Box 328, Austin, PA 16720 or to a charity of the donorâs choice.
Mr. Meyersâ family has entrusted his care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
