Gladys A. Howard âloving mother, grandmother and sisterâ
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Gladys A. Howard, 77, of Shinglehouse, passed away from this life into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, with family members at her side.
Born October 27, 1935 in Roulette, she was a daughter of Frank C. and Grace U. Harris Tucker. On May 26, 1956 in Roulette, she married C. Dean Howard, who passed away April 26, 2007.
Mrs. Howard was a graduate of Roulette High School. She was employed as a cafeteria helper at the Oswayo Valley Elementary School and later was a housekeeper at the former Hewitt Manor Nursing Home in Shinglehouse.
Mrs. Howard was a member of the Bell Run Union Church in Shinglehouse. She loved to read her Bible and her Daily Bread devotional. Gladys fondly remembered family and friends with letters and cards. She was always more concerned with helping others than herself. She loved to bowl, having been on a bowling league at OV Lanes in Shinglehouse and she loved to shop. She most especially loved family gatherings.
Surviving are a daughter, Diane K. Gilroy of Shinglehouse, with whom she resided the last 5 years; a son Rodney D. (Becky) Howard of Port Allegany; three grandchildren, Brian L. Gilroy of Shinglehouse, Benjamin D. Howard of St. Davidâs, PA, and Meredith K. (Jonathan) Gant of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Lois (George) Grossman of Roulette; a special sister-in-law, Judy Tucker of Roulette; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Howard was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters, Millie Griffith, Fern Griffith, Betty Lent, Marian Smith, Edna Eaton, James âTuckâ Tucker, Don Tucker, Robert âBrother Bobâ Tucker, Paul âBootsâ Tucker, Bert Tucker, and Keith âBillyâ Tucker.
Friends may call on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013 with her grandson, Benjamin D. Howard and Karmon M. Wood, pastor of the Prattsburgh Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be in Bell Run Cemetery.
