Gloria D. “Toots” Stuckey “beloved mother, grandmother, and community volunteer”
AUSTIN, PA---Gloria D. “Toots” Stuckey, 86, a lifelong resident of Austin, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a brief illness.
Toots was born on Sunday, April 10, 1938 at the family home in Austin, a daughter of Francis C. and Sarah E. Lentz Marshall. On October 31, 1959 in the Austin United Methodist Church, she married Norman Stuckey, who passed away on December 14, 2005.
Toots was a 1956 graduate of Austin Area High School. As a young girl, she worked for her grandfather at his restaurant in Austin, Dick’s Diner.
She was a lifetime member of the Austin United Methodist Church. Toots was recognized as the Potter County Volunteer of the Year in 2015 for her many years of volunteer service with community activities including the Austin Volunteer Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary and the Austin Ambulance where she also served on the Board of Directors. She was also a founding member of the Austin Pride Committee and was a lifetime member of the Austin VFW Post 7810 Ladies Auxiliary.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and supporter of her community. She was well known for her cake baking skills, making cakes for birthdays, weddings and for people who “just wanted one of her delicious cakes”. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Amy (Dan) Fox of Austin; two sons, Norman M. (Amanda) Stuckey and Bill (Chrissy) Stuckey, both of Austin; thirteen grandchildren, Tim, Cassie, Justine, Heather, Alecia, Dakota, Daniel, River, Collin, Leila, Destiny, Isaac, and Macy; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Toots was predeceased by two brothers, Francis “Sonny” Marshall and Walter Gale Marshall; and a sister, Faye Kio.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at God’s Country Global Methodist Church, Turner Street, Austin, where funeral services will follow at 1pm with Pastor Todd Lamer, Toots’ nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Austin.
Memorials in Toots’ name may be made to the Austin Pride Committee, 28 Reading Street, Austin, PA 16720, designated for the yearly fireworks which she so dearly loved, or to the Austin Ambulance Association, PO Box 328, Austin, PA 16720.
Toots’ family entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
