Gretta Lee Olmstead                          “beloved wife, mother and grandmother”


SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Gretta Lee Olmstead, 77, of Shinglehouse, passed away with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.


Born on Friday, October 31, 1947 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Frank and Jacqueline Freeborn Bump. On January 27, 1975 in Eldred, she married Albert W. “Skeeter” Olmstead, Jr., who survives.


Gretta attended school in East Hampton, NY.


Gretta babysat many children throughout the years. She was also employed at the former Park N Shop in Portville, NY and also at the former Jan’s Restaurant in Portville.


She enjoyed doing needle crafts, especially crocheting, making gifts for her family and friends. Gretta’s greatest love was her family.


Left to cherish her memory are her husband; four children, Joanne (Glenn) Dunn of Coudersport, Mark A. (Tricia) Olmstead of Shinglehouse, Misty L. (Jake) Rhoades of Eustis, FL and Kristy L. Young of Eustis, FL; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Bump of Arcadia, FL; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, Gretta was predeceased by a brother; and a sister.


In keeping with Gretta’s wishes, there will be no public services.


In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gretta’s name may be made to the Sweden Valley Manor Patient Activity Fund, 1028 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.


Gretta’s husband has entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
