Irene Allen    “beloved mother and grandmother”

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA----Irene Allen, 75, of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in UPMC Hamot, Erie, after a long illness.
    Born May 31, 1939 in Linden, NJ, she was a daughter of John and Anna Lukaczana Mesko.  On April 27, 1958 in Elizabeth, NJ, she married Richard E. “Dick” Allen, Sr., who passed away on December 22, 2013.
     Irene was a graduate of Linden High School in Linden, NJ.  She attended trade school to obtain her Black Seal Boilers License which was a requirement to her job of being a custodian supervisor at the Rahway Intermediate High School in Rahway, NJ.  She was also a school crossing guard for many years.  
     She was a member of Bell Run Union Church in Shinglehouse where she served as a deaconess.  She loved her farm animals and worked extremely hard on the family farm.
     Surviving are two sons, William H. “Billy” Allen and Richard E. “Richie” (Kari) Allen, both of Shinglehouse; two grandchildren, Nicholas J. (Tabby) Allen and Alexis N. Allen, both of Shinglehouse; a great-grandson, Troy Mykol Allen; a sister, Helen of Colonia, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
     Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Chad E. Shaffer, pastor of Bell Run Union Church, officiating.  Burial will be in the Allen Family Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
     Flowers are gratefully declined and will be provided by the family.  Memorials may be made to the Bell Run Union Church, 904 Taylor Brook Road, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
