James M. Beckwith âmayor of Jander Runâ
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa-----James M. Beckwith, 86, of Shinglehouse, passed away Friday, December 5, 2014, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born February 10, 1928 in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Wilder E. and Marion Ford Beckwith. On February 24, 1945 in Shinglehouse, he married Maxine Peters, who passed away on March 29, 1997. On February 13, 1999 in Shinglehouse, he married Joanne A. Wittek Hellmann, who passed away on December 9, 2009.
Mr. Beckwith attended Shinglehouse High School. For most of his life he had been employed in the local oil fields. He retired in 1990 from Quaker State after 33 years of service.
He faithfully attended Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church in Shinglehouse. Mr. Beckwith loved to go for rides in his car looking for âgameâ. He enjoyed solving word search puzzles and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting. In the summer, he was seen on his Wheel Horse tractor mowing his lawn at least twice a week.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. Terry L. (Tresa) Beckwith of Mechanicville, NY; a daughter, Natalie J. (Dan) Tice of Coudersport; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Karl E. (Darlene) Hellmann of Denver, Pa. and Steven K. (Doris) Hellmann of Lansdale; two stepdaughters, Heidi J. (John) Gore of Delmar, Del. and Linda A. (Randy) Wilber of Portville, NY; eleven step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ron and Sue Brown, Shawn âSamâ Williams, and Helen Payne, all of Shinglehouse.
In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. Beckwith was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin Beckwith and William Beckwith; and a sister, Geraldine Lemmer.
In keeping with Mr. Beckwithâs wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Roger N. Hain, retired pastor of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Rathbone Cemetery, Coneville.
