James A. Sturdevant “beloved husband, father, and grandfather”

SMETHPORT, Pa.---James A. “Jim” Sturdevant, 86, a longtime resident of Smethport, passed away unexpectedly with his loving family by his side on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.

Born on Sunday, May 3, 1936 in Coudersport, he was a son of Ray H. and Bernice M. Duell Sturdevant. On June 25, 1966 in Farmers Valley, he married Nancy A. Dunn, who survives.

Jim attended the Coneville Country School. He was employed at Pierce Glass (now Ardagh) in Port Allegany, retiring in 1998 after 42 years of service.

Jim was a member of the Port Allegany Moose Lodge 460 since 1982. He enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, the Buffalo Sabres, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved riding his tractor, hot dogs, and family gatherings. In his younger years, Jim was an avid bowler and enjoyed snowmobiling.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years; two daughters, Linda (Mike) Gordon of Port Allegany and Debbie (Michael) McKee of Prentisvale; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; his twin sister, Joyce (Charles “Tink”) Prentice of Shinglehouse; a brother, Francis (Betty) Sturdevant of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a grandson, Christian Bee; a brother, Edwin Sturdevant; two nephews, David Sturdevant and Denny Sturdevant; and a niece, Evelyn Sturdevant Weeks.

Family and friends may call from 10am to 12 noon on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at noon in the funeral home with Pastor Harold L. Kiel, of Bingham Center Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Port Allegany Moose Lodge 460, 35 Pearl Street, Port Allegany, PA 16743.

Jim’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
