Jean I. Talmadge “beloved mother, grandmother, and friend”
AUSTIN, Pa.---Jean I. Talmadge, 79, of Austin, passed away in her home with her loving family by her side, on Friday, January 7, 2022, after a short illness.
Born on Monday, September 21, 1942, in York, she was a daughter of Charles Romich and Mary Honsermyer. She married Carl Seifert who preceded her in death and later married LeRoy Talmadge who also preceded her in death.
Jean owned and operated the Costello General Store in Costello for many years.
She was a member of the Austin United Methodist Church, a member and past matron of the former Mecca Chapter # 217 OES in Austin and a member of Eulalia Chapter #148 OES in Coudersport where she currently served as treasurer. Jean enjoyed playing Bingo and reading. She loved traveling and going to the beach, but her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, Carla J. (Darren) VanWhy of Coudersport, Barbara J. Blymire of Shrewsbury, and John L. (Bev)Seifert of Loganville; three stepchildren and their families; two grandchildren, Robert William (Amy) Blymire and Cassandra J. (Joseph) Preston; three wonderful great-granddaughters, Olivia, Abby, and Sydney; a brother and a sister and their families; a sister-in-law, Iris Keibler of Export; many friends; and several special friends.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Jean was predeceased by a son, Barry Lee; and a brother.
Family and friends are invited to call from 12 noon to 1pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022, in the Austin United Methodist Church, Turner Street, Austin.
Members of Eulalia Chapter #148 OES will conduct a memorial service at 1pm on Saturday in the church.
Following the Eastern Star service, a memorial service will be held with the Rev. Todd Lamer, pastor of the Austin United Methodist Church, officiating.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Jean’s family has entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
