Jennifer Leah âSuzyâ Jones Pire âbeloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and auntâ
OSWAYO, PA---Jennifer Leah âSuzyâ Jones Pire, 43, of Oswayo, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, April 9, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 13, 1972 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of John P. âFoggyâ and Mary M. âMugsyâ Voorhees Jones. On March 7, 1992 in Shinglehouse, she married Ronald A. Pire, who survives.
Suzy graduated with honors from Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1990, in Shinglehouse, and was a graduate of the former Olean Business Institute with a certificate in business. She also graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford with her Bachelors of Arts degree in Social Sciences and she obtained her Masterâs degree in Education from Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa. Suzy received her New York State Teacherâs certification from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Suzy was employed as a lead teacher at Bolivar (N.Y.) Head Start (Accord Corporation). While working for Accord Corporation, she was promoted to Education and Disabilities Specialist for Allegany County, from where she retired in 2013 due to ill health.
Suzy was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shinglehouse. She was a former board member for Autism Awareness for the State of Pennsylvania. She enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, hot baths, basketball, yard sales and riding roller coasters. While in high school, Suzy was an Oswayo Valley Athlete of the Year. She served two years as an Oswayo Valley Junior High Girls Basketball coach. Suzyâs greatest love was her family.
Surviving besides her husband and her parents of Oswayo are two sons, Jarrod T. Pire and Jayden A. Pire, and a daughter, Jaycee L. Pire, all at home; a brother, John P. âButchâ (Christine) Jones III of Oswayo; several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Elizabeth A. (Jason) Wind of Oswayo and Emily A. Jones of Shinglehouse; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 in St. Theresa Catholic Church, Shinglehouse with the Rev. Thomas Brown, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery, Oswayo.
A prayer will be offered by the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
