John Calvin Grove, Jr.       “beloved uncle”

COUDERSPORT, PA---John Calvin Grove, Jr., 58, of Coudersport, passed away with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a long illness.
     Born on August 13, 1957 in Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC, he was a son of John Calvin Grove, Sr. and Lillian Gay Dixon Grove.
     John was a graduate of Ayden Grifton High School in Grifton, NC.  He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1979 to 1984.  He was employed by Crowley’s Foods in Arkport, NY for 27 years, retiring due to ill health.
     John was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters AFL-CIO.  He enjoyed being with his family and was lovingly known as “Uncle John” by the neighborhood children.  John was a kind soul and will be greatly missed.
     Surviving besides his mother of Farmville, NC are a niece, Donna G. (Dennis) Copp of Coudersport; and two great-nephews, Cody and Cory Copp of Coudersport.
     John was predeceased by a sister, Vivian E. James.
     Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside funeral service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2016 in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport, with the Rev. Steven D. Small, pastor of the Southern Potter United Methodist Charge, officiating.       Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Sunday at the cemetery.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Potter County Honor Guard, c/o Berwyn Calcote, 4668 SR 49W, Mills, PA 16937.
     John’s family has entrusted his care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
