John E. Hoffman “beloved husband, father, and grandfather”

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---John E. Hoffman, 76, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 12, 2021, in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, N.Y.
Born on Saturday, February 3, 1945 in Hanover, he was a son of Elwood F. and Margaret M. Bair Hoffman. On December 15, 1962 in Hanover, he married Rosemary Farley, who survives.
John attended Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown. He was employed as a machine operator for 32 years at ESAB North American in Hanover.
Starting in the 1960’s, John and Rosemary lived part time in Potter County. They became permanent residents in 2009.
John was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Shinglehouse and a member of the Shinglehouse Post 530 Sons of the American Legion. He loved his farm, hunting, cutting wood, and fishing. John loved being with his family, who he adored and loved.
Surviving besides his wife of 58 years are four children, Brenda M. Etzler of Hanover, John E. (Darla) Hoffman, Jr. of Sunbury, Ohio, Adam A. (Addi) Hoffman of York Haven, and Heidi E. Chronister of Abbottstown; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two granddogs, Juggers and Stella; three brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents and two brothers.
In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a SPCA of the donor’s choice or to Teacher’s Pet Rescue, 19 Blackberry Lane, Coudersport, PA 16915.
John’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
