John G. Parker “servant of the Lord, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother”
CONEVILLE, Pa.----John G. Parker, 76, of Coneville, formerly of Sunbury, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, after a long illness.
Born on Friday, June 14, 1946 in Auburn, New York, he was a son of Albert and Bernice Tuttle Parker. On June 8, 2013 in Hebron Union Church, Hebron Center, he married Mary A. Sereno, who survives.
John was a graduate of Moravia Central School in Moravia, N.Y. and a graduate of Hobart College in Geneva, NY with a Bachelor’s Degree in English. He was also a graduate of the Evangelical School of Theology in Myerstown where he received his Master’s of Divinity Degree.
John was a pastor beginning in the late 1970’s until the 1990’s, serving as pastor in several Evangelical Congregational Churches throughout Pennsylvania. After his active pastorate, John remained active in Bible studies and church activities. John also served in his later years as a substitute teacher in Pennsylvania and New York.
John was a member of God’s Country Ministries in Coudersport where he and his wife were instrumental in the formation of the Children’s Church Ministries. John loved to play chess, bowl, and play an occasional game of golf with his brothers. He loved pie, especially blueberry! Both he and Mary very much enjoyed playing Scrabble. His greatest love was his Lord and his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife; a son, Robert (Jackie) Parker of Fort Worth, Texas; three daughters, Amy (Jeff) Miller of Troy, Becky (Tom) Childs of Traverse City, Michigan, and Deb Parker of Sunbury; four grandchildren, Isaac, Anna, Jasper, and Petra; three brothers, Clarence “Skip” (Vera) Parker of Howard, Ohio, Fred (Gerry) Parker of Bethany, Oklahoma, and Richmond “Rich” Parker of Auburn, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents.
In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no public visitation. A celebration of John’s life will be held at God’s Country Ministries, 1237 East Second Street, Coudersport, at 11am on Saturday, October 22, 2022, with Pastor Daniel Brehm, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to God’s Country Ministries, 1237 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
John’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
