John W. Wenner          â€œbeloved father, grandfather, and brother”

MILLPORT, PA---John W. Wenner, 79, of Millport, passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY, from complications of surgery.
      Born December 20, 1935 in Blossburg, he was a son of Robert Leo and Grace J. Tubbs Shepardson Wenner.  On June 26, 1972 in Coudersport, he married Virginia H. Miles, who passed away on February 15, 1998.
     He was a graduate of Smethport High School.  John proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
     He was employed by the former Viko Furniture Company in Eldred and later was employed as a foreman at the former Clark Brothers in Olean.  John then went to work for the former Pure Carbon Company in Coudersport, retiring in 1999.
     John was a member of the American Legion.  He enjoyed playing bingo.  His greatest love was his family.
     Surviving are a daughter, Robin L. (Fred) Murray of Shinglehouse; three sons, John E. (Gina) Thompson of Eldred, Ronald J. ( Jacqueline) Thompson of Millport, and Adelbert W. (Michelle) Thompson of Port Allegany; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Shirley, Betty, Beverly, Barbara, Velma, Sandra, and Shelba; three brothers, Vivion, Robert, and Donald; and many nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents and wife, John was predeceased by a son, Richard L. “Shorty” Thompson; a grandson, AJ Murray; a brother, Darwin; a sister, Linda; and two nephews.
     Friends may call on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, Pa., where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Michael  Miles and Matthew Thompson, officiating.  Burial will be in Rathbone Cemetery.
     Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Thursday.
