Joseph Miller, Sr. “dearly loved husband, father and grandfather”

OSWAYO, Pa.---Joseph Miller, Sr., 86, of Oswayo, formerly of Levittown, passed away in his home with his loving family by his side on Saturday, December 4, 2021, following a short illness.
Born on Thursday, May 23, 1935 in Trenton, NJ, he was a son of Leon Miller and Catherine Wojtowicz Miller Cantor. On October 10, 1964 in Elizabeth City, NC, he married Patricia A. Curry, who passed away on May 7, 2016.
Joel was extremely proud of his military career, serving as a US Marine for over 20 years, attaining the rank of 1st sergeant. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mr. Miller received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530, a member of Galeton Post 6611 VFW, a member of the Marine Corps League, a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and a member of the National Association of Uniformed Services. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
His greatest love was his family.
Surviving are three daughters, Diane F. Maiden, Debbie K. Jewell, and Denise R. (Rick) Sauer, all of New Bern NC; a son, Joseph (Misty) Miller, Jr. of Oswayo; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald L. Miller of Ormond Beach, Florida.
Joe was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Pat.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
Joe entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
