Joyce A. Pinney
LITTLE GENESEE, NY---Joyce A. Pinney, 86, a lifelong resident of Little Genesee, passed away with her loving granddaughter by her side on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Absolut of Allegany, Allegany, after a long illness.
Born February 7, 1930 in Little Genesee, she was a daughter of George and Lucile Wirt Hawkes. On June 11, 1949 in Little Genesee, she married Arthur L. Pinney, who passed away on October 30, 2015.
Joyce was a graduate of Bolivar High School, Class of 1948. She was employed from 1948 to 1983 by both banks in Bolivar and for a short period of time she was also employed as a butcher at the Bolivar Market Basket.
Joyce was a member of the former Buttrick Chapter #109 Order of the Eastern Star in Bolivar. She was a trustee and treasurer of the Little Genesee Library. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and baking her famous scotcharoos cookies.
Surviving are five children, William A. âBillâ (Janice) Pinney of Galeton, Jody A. Allen of Bolivar, Mark D. (Betty) Pinney of Almond, Russell A. (Lynn) Pinney of Bolivar, and Dale A. âPonchâ Pinney of Richburg; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Elaine) Hawkes of Penn Yan; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Benedict of Hannibal, Loretta Pinney of Little Genesee, and Anna Pinney of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Joyce was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra âSandyâ Knowlton; a sister, Joan Heimel; a brother, Donald Hawkes; and a son-in-law, Bud Allen.
In keeping with the familyâs wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa., with Pastor Kevin Palmatier of the Little Genesee Seventh Day Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery, Little Genesee.
