Lee Sherwood Evans “beloved grandfather”
Bolivar, N.Y.---Lee S. Evans, 71, a lifelong resident of Bolivar and Richburg, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020, in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease and COVID-19.
Born on August 12, 1949, in Olean, he was a son of Elmer and Beatrice Sherwood Evans. Lee spent his entire life as a resident of Richburg and Bolivar, NY. He spent many weekends watching NASCAR and cheering for whichever Earnhardt happened to be behind the wheel and greatly enjoyed taking weekly drives to Shinglehouse with his brother David. A reliable friend to many, Lee took pleasure from meals and conversations with his friends, who are far too numerous to list individually.
He was known for being a hard worker, having worked at Friendship Dairies for 34 years, and most importantly, a devoted father and grandfather. Lee would adorn his walls with photos of his grandchildren, the details of whom he would share with you on the street if you offered him even a moment of your time. As a father, he worked tirelessly to make sure his children had everything they needed and many things they just wanted to have. More importantly, when they were little, Lee loved nothing more than to play with them. He continued to demonstrate that same passion with his grandchildren to the best of his ability, even as his Parkinson’s took hold. As a grandfather, he always made sure his grandsons had bikes to ride, books to read, and, especially, noisy toys with which to play.
Lee is survived by his children, Kristie (Oliver) Fox of Falls Church, VA and Kurtis (Carolyn) Evans of Toronto, Canada; two sisters, Alice (John) Dunbar of Richburg, NY and Nancy Straight of Youngstown, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Gloria Evans of Richburg, NY; his four grandsons: Jack, Duke, Hugo, and Finley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, David Evans and Peter Evans Sr.; a niece, Michelle Evans; and a nephew, Peter Evans Jr.
Family and friends are invited to attend graveside burial services at 11am on Friday, August 13, 2021, in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar with Pastor David Herne, of Heritage AFlame Ministries, Bolivar, officiating.
