Leo H. Stout
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Leo H Stout, 91, of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away at home with his loving family and caregivers by his side on Thursday, January 15, 2015 after a brief illness.
Born January 23, 1923 in Hornell, NY, he was a son of Theodean and Bernice Holmes Stout. On February 2, 1974, he married Marie Lefler Brown, who passed away on December 9, 2008.
Mr. Stout was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, class of 1943. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the military police.
He was employed at Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, Port Allegany, PA as Quality Control manager, retiring in 1985.
Mr. Stout was a very active member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church and enjoyed working on church committees and projects. Everyone remembers Leo as âChief Coffee Makerâ at any luncheon at the United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post #530, a past Grand of the former Shinglehouse Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #498, a member of the former Oswayo Rural Development Association, a former member of the Roulette Chamber of Commerce, and member of the Oswayo Valley Historical Society, Shinglehouse.
Leo was an avid gardener, loved watching the wildlife out his back window and enjoyed keeping his 4 acres pruned and looking great.
Surviving are a brother, Herbert D. (Phyllis) Stout of Rochester, NY; a son, Thomas L. (Brenda) Brown of Youngsville, PA; two daughters, Lucinda (Pete) Brown Espersen of Holly Springs, NC and Della Sue (Paul) Czora of Clarence, NY; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Stout was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Eaton.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, 201 N Lincoln St, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Becky L. Edwards, pastor of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Monday at the church.
