Lloyd E. Austin “beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather”
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Lloyd E. Austin, 81, of Shinglehouse, passed away in his home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Thursday, May 29, 1941 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Nelson and Ruby M. Confer Austin. On April 17, 1964 in the Ceres United Methodist Church, he married Phyllis R. Brabham, who survives.
Lloyd attended the Bell Run Country School until the sixth grade and then attended Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. He was employed by the former Olean Tile Plant, Bokman’s in Olean, N.Y., Vic McIntosh Tank and Pump in Olean and then by McGraw Edison in Olean. He also owned and operated an auto repair shop in Shinglehouse, Austin’s Repair.
Lloyd was a life member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the former Potter County Trail Busters Snowmobile club.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years are three sons, Douglas Austin, Timothy Austin, and Brian Austin, all of Shinglehouse; a daughter, Tracey (Tom) Latten of Portville, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Heather (Todd Keesler) Latten, T.J. Latten, Megan (Tony) Tidd, Kelly (Robert) Lee, and Christopher Stickel, who lives with his grandparents; nine great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dan Austin of Shinglehouse and Herb Austin of Corry; two sisters-in-law, Jane Austin of Shinglehouse and Bev Austin of Millport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was predeceased by a daughter, Kim Stickel; two brothers, Bob Austin and Wayne Austin; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Austin and Elsie Austin.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life for Lloyd from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the family residence, 66 Wapsena Road, Shinglehouse. At 1pm, Pastor Chad E. Shaffer of Bell Run Union Church, Shinglehouse, will conduct a memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Lloyd’s wife entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
