Loretta M. “Birthday” Nelson      â€œevangelist”

COUDERSPORT, PA---Loretta M. “Birthday” Nelson, a longtime Coudersport resident, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 11, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at home following a short illness.
     Born May 29, 1949 in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Francis H. and Ilene Lyden Young.  On May 29, 1976 in Coudersport, she married Ray A. Nelson, who survives.
     Loretta was a graduate of Port Allegany High School.  For many years she was employed by Prudential Insurance as a sales agent, having received many awards during the course of her career.  She was later employed as a land specialist for UGI Central Penn Gas in Port Allegany retiring three years ago.
     Loretta was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Coudersport.  She spent many years as a youth leader with the Coudersport Alliance Church and area ministries directed to the youth.  Loretta was known mostly for her love of life and for her witness of Jesus Christ to whomever would listen.  She and her husband are members of the Twin Tier Christian Motorcycle Association, having loved to travel the countryside on their Harleys.  She was a dedicated volunteer at Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.
     Surviving besides her loving husband are a daughter, Rosie M. Johnston of Bradenton, Florida; three sons, Gene W. Glasgow of Evansville, Indiana, Patrick A. (Karen) Nelson of Coudersport, and Tim M. (Amy) McCratic of Wellsboro; two granddaughters, Loren Johnston and Autumn McCratic; a grandson, Aden McCratic; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to her parents, Loretta was predeceased by a son, Damon L. Nelson; and two sisters, Francine Earle and Alberta Shaffer.
     Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Gospel Tabernacle Church, Coudersport where a memorial service honoring Loretta’s life will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Minor, pastor, officiating.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Youth for Christ, 55 Fassett Street, Wellsville, NY 14895 or to the Alliance Church Food Bank, Coudersport, PA 16915.
     Loretta’s family has entrusted her care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
