Mary R. Morris âloving wife, mother and grandmotherâ
OLEAN, NY---Mary R. Morris, 90, of Olean, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 in The Pines Health & Rehabilitation Center, Olean, after a long illness.
Born February 12, 1925 in Rogersville, PA, she was a daughter of Delbert R. and Mary E. Hostettlier Thomas. On February 25, 1942 in Coudersport, PA, she married Harold J. Morris, who passed away on January 7, 2010.
Mary attended Shinglehouse High School. She was employed at the former Shinglehouse Elementary School for four years.
Mrs. Morris attended the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, was a member of the Oswayo Valley Senior Center in Shinglehouse, and was a life member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of a quilting club in Shinglehouse. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting.
Surviving are a son, Jerry K. (Evelyn) Morris of Whitesville; two daughters, Sharon E. (Ted) Seamans of Williamsville and Judy C. (Mark) Shaw of Olean; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Elizabeth (Donald) King of Weidman, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Carol Thomas of Shinglehouse and Mary Thomas of Maple Rapids, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by two brothers, Charles K. Thomas and Kenneth C. Thomas.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Becky L. Edwards, pastor of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
