Nettie Sue Drake Soules Nichols âbeloved mother, grandmother and sisterâ
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Nettie Sue Drake Soules Nichols, 79, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, after a long illness.
Born December 28, 1935 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Leon F. and Betty Burrows Drake. On June 10, 1978 in Portville, NY, she married Hollis W. Nichols, who passed away on July 20, 2006. She previously had been married to Richard F. Soules.
Nettie Sue was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School, Class of 1953. She had been employed in several clerical jobs throughout her life.
Nettie Sue was Seventh Day Baptist by faith. She was a very active member and past matron of Eureka Chapter #52 O.E.S. in Shinglehouse where you would find her helping at the fish fries in the spring and fall. She was a member of the Bolivar Golf Club in Bolivar, NY where she belonged to the Ladiesâ Wednesday League and golfed with her sister-in-law, Kate. She was also a former Potter County Hospice volunteer. Nettie Sue, along with her husband Hollis, enjoyed traveling, having taken many cruises, one of which was through the Panama Canal.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathie A. (Greg) Bucher of Savona, NY; three step-children, Frank L. (Lila) Nichols of Elderton, Susan R. (Rod) Allen of Lima, NY, and James L. (Jackie) Nichols of Oklahoma; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Denver D. (Sue) Drake of Shinglehouse; three sisters, Carman J. Drake of Shinglehouse, Fawzia D. (Del) DeLong of Salem, WV, and Rachel E. (Wayne) Bollinger of York; a sister-in-law, Kathryn R. "Kate" Nichols of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nettie Sue was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Soules; and a step-grandson, Vincent Nichols.
Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of Eureka Chapter # 52 O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
