Paul R. Whitman “beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother”

SHINGLEHOUSE – Paul R. Whitman passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on July 17th, 2023, at UPMC Cole in Coudersport, PA, after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on April 1st, 1948, to Stanley and Janet (Potter) Whitman in Buffalo, NY. Paul was a graduate of Depew High School in Depew, NY.

Throughout his life, Paul was renowned for his exceptional cooking skills, and he dedicated much of his working career to leading kitchens at various establishments. He had the privilege of working at some of the area's finest private Country Clubs and numerous other restaurants. Notably, Paul and his wife Linda also embarked on their own culinary journey together, opening and running Paul's Little Town Blues in Olean, NY.

One of Paul's greatest joys was spending time outdoors, especially when he could be surrounded by his beloved family. He had a passion for fishing and cherished moments shared with his granddaughter, Millie, hunting adventures with his son Bruce and grandson Chase, and kayaking adventures with all the kids and grandkids. Additionally, he found comfort in activities like reading, camping, golfing, and the companionship of his cherished furr babies over the years.

Paul was a devoted husband, married to Linda (Kimball) Whitman for 44 years, whom he is survived by. He is also survived by his children, Tricia Whitman and Bruce Whitman, along with his granddaughter, Millie Whitman, grandson, Levi Whitman, granddaughter, Kennedy Whitman, and grandson, Chase Whitman. Paul's memory will be forever cherished by his sister, Linda Lipka, and his two nieces, Dawn Phetteplace and Bonnie Sweet, as well as several other distant family members scattered throughout the country. He was predeceased by his parents, his grandmother, Estelle Potter, his grandfather, Chester Potter, and his son, Paul Whitman.

A celebration of Paul's life will be held at The State King in Olean, NY, on Friday, August 4th, 2023, commencing at 3 pm. Family and friends are warmly welcome to attend this event and pay their respects to a remarkable man who touched the lives of many with his culinary talents, love for the outdoors, and unwavering dedication to his family.

As we mourn the loss of Paul, we take solace in the knowledge that he is now at peace, watching over us from above. May his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Paul’s family entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
