Phyllis I. Skudlarek “Beloved Wife and Mother”

SALAMANCA, NY---Phyllis I. Skudlarek, 83, a longtime resident of Salamanca, NY, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA, after a lengthy illness.
     Born on April 19, 1929 in Salamanca, NY, she was a daughter of Angelo J. and Betty B. Scott Paoletto. On April 15, 1950 in Buffalo, NY, she married Walter J. Skudlarek, Jr., who died on December 6, 2006.
     Mrs. Skudlarek was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1948. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.
     Mrs. Skudlarek was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Salamanca, NY and also a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Coudersport, PA. Prior to moving to Coudersport, she was also a former long time member of the United Congregational Methodist Church of Salamanca, where she taught Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship organization within the church. Mrs. Skudlarek was a devout Christian, having loved the Lord and attended church regularly when her health permitted.
     In her spare time, she was an avid doll and doll house collector. She was very proud of her collection; the collections were featured as the subject of several articles in past Olean Times Herald publications. Mrs. Skudlarek also enjoyed spending time with her family and her dogs, Shorty and Pugsley.
     Surviving are a son, Robert L. “Bob” Skudlarek of Olean, NY; a brother, James L. (Joann) Paoletto of Clinton, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
     At Mrs. Skudlarek’s request, there will be no public visitation.  Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service of the Holy Eucharist at Bethany Lutheran Church, 6 Leo Moss Drive, Olean, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 AM with the Rev. Marie Meeks, pastor, and the Rev. Father Michael Lonto of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Salamanca, co-officiating.     Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery in the Veteran’s Field of Honor, Olean.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 6 Leo Moss Dr., Olean, NY 14760 or St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 99 Wildwood Ave., Salamanca, NY 14779.
